It’s A Real Party In The Back
Who doesn’t love a good party? Wedding receptions, bachelor/bachelorette parties , backyard barbeque, VIP service at the club, brunches with bottomless mimosas… the list goes on. I myself used to be obsessed with planning my outfits for my next night on the town, and seeing where the hot spots were going to be for the weekend. Man, I thought I was something! Never having to wait in lines, drinks on the house, and dancing the night away; I truly thought I was living what the cool kids used to say “my best life.”
Hear me out, some of those things aren’t necessarily wrong to enjoy, but they were a huge distraction from what God wanted for my life. As I was doing a little reading/word study about the word wine and its different translations in the Blue Letter Bible, I came across the scripture John 2:9 and the holy spirit spoke to me so clear; it reads:
“When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over.” NLT
The holy spirit said to me “See the miraculous things you get to witness when you are serving Me? “ Woah! You see, I spent a good deal of my life trying to be the life of the party. And God showed me, even though many attended and enjoyed the party in John 2:9 , heck, they even got a taste of the very best wine they would ever have, BUT… they all did not get the chance to know where/Who the best came from. Jesus!
When I gave up trying to be the life of the party, and took the opportunity to serve the very One who gives life, that my friends came with zero regret, doubt, hurt, fear, or headache the next day. I am content and full even on my worst day. And I rest easy knowing that I get to witness with my very own eyes, the greatness of God by being a follower of Christ Jesus.
As I continue to surrender all of the self serving pleasures and the idea of what the world defines as “best life”, and embrace that close walk with Jesus that is when I come to understand the real opportunity at not just best life, but everlasting life. Like Jesus says in John 14:6 ” I am the way the truth and the life, and no one can come to the Father except through me.” That dear friends is the only life I want to know.
BEST LIFE Prayer:
I pray that You keep me in a low posture know matter how much success , happiness, and celebrations comes my way. I am nothing without you oh God! Lord keep me humble and hungry for Your word and Your way, because I know that doing it Your way is the only way to have a chance at real life. The best life. Everlasting life.
